APPOINTMENTS



  • New executive director of oriental bank of commerce is Suresh n patel. Earlier he acted as general manager at Dena bank.

  • Senior IPS officer Devendra Kumar Pathak has been appointed as Special Director General of Border Security Force (BSF).

  • Pradeep Kumar Saxena has taken over charge as full-fledged General Manager of South Western Railway (SWR).

  • Sunil Kumar Sood has been appointed General Manager, Central Railway with effect from December 31, 2013. He was earlier Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, Chennai. Sood had also served as Divisional Railway Manager, Jodhpur Division, North Western Railway, Chief Workshop Manager, Jamalpur, Eastern Railway, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Moradabad Division, Northern Railway, earlier.

  • Tata Sons announced appointment of Shankar Venkateswaran as Chief — Tata Sustainability Group with the responsibility of driving group level initiatives in the sustainability space, and guiding Tata Sons and the group companies on sustainability and CSR initiatives.

  • Janet Yellen, vice chairman of the Federal Reserve, was confirmed by the Senate to succeed Chairman Ben Bernanke as the next head of America’s central bank. Her term, which begins Feb. 1, will mark an important shift in the direction of the bank’s policy efforts, as it begins to “taper” back the past five years of unconventional monetary policy, which have resulted in the Fed pouring some $3.8 trillion into the U.S. economy following the financial crisis.

  • The Centre will soon appoint Justice B.S. Chauhan, a Judge of the Supreme Court, as Chairman of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal to take up pending applications.

  • Senior IAS officer Rajeev Kher has been appointed Secretary in Department of Commerce.

  • Jeevandas Narayan has taken over as Managing Director of State Bank of Travancore.

  • Sachin Pilot appointed Rajasthan Congress chief.

  • T. Nanda Kumar will be the new Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), replacing Amrita Patel who has been holding the post since 1998.

  • Australia has appointed Shane Warne as a specialist spin consultant on 23 January 2014 to support Darren Lehmann ahead of Australian campaign in World Twenty20 to be played in Bangladesh. His role in the team will be to train the spinners of the squad.

  • Rajasthan's former police chief HC Meena has been appointed the secretary, security in the cabinet secretariat, an official statement.

  • New Zealander Kathy Cross has become the first woman appointed to an International Cricket Council umpire panel.

  • The government appointed Arun Kumar Gupta as the chairman and managing director of Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), filling the post which has been vacant for over a year.

  • Multi Commodity Exchange, promoted by the troubled Financial Technologies (India) Ltd, has appointed former BSE head Manoj Vaish as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for three years.

  • Indian-origin academician Rakesh Khurana has been appointed dean of the prestigious Harvard College and will take over his new role in July.

  • Ukraine Prime Minister Mykola Azarov resigned

  • Vijay Bahuguna, the Chief Minister of Uttrakhand resigned.

  • Renowned Marathi poet and activist Namdeo Dhasal passed away in Mumbai after a prolonged illness.

  • Legendary Bengali actor Suchitra Sen who was undergoing treatment at a private health facility in the city died in Kolkata.

  • Karl Slym, the managing director of Tata Motors died on 26 January 2014 after falling from a hotel building in Bangkok.

  • Chandi Prasad Bhatt, the noted Gandhian environmentalist and social activist won the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2013 on 28 February 2014.

  • Corporation Bank has bagged the awards for lending to MSE (micro and small enterprises) and to micro enterprises from the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) for 2012-13.

  • Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli are the leading candidates for the 2013 ESPNCricinfo awards, nominations.

  • FIFA awards Cristiano Ronaldo prestigious Ballon d'Or prize.

  • Actress Deepika Padukone, who gave the industry four blockbusters last year, was awarded the Best Actress while Farhan Akhtar walked away with the Best Actor for his power packed performance in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' at the 20th Screen Awards.
